March 18: Parintins, Brazil – Part 2

We returned ashore for the Boi Bumba Festive Show.  As mentioned in a previous post, we have low expectations for these events, often wondering why we go to them.  It is because sometimes they are really very good.  This one was such a show.

TOUR #2:  The Boi Bumba Festival Show

Description
The must-see Boi Bumba is one of the greatest folk festivals in Brazil. It is a world full of magic, bright colors, music, dance and folklore—a feast for the senses. The luxurious costumes and floats, comparable to those seen at Rio’s Carnival, are a spectacle. Performers will dance and sing, celebrating the joy of life in a mesmerizing display of revelry. The captivating story of disputing families—the Cids and the Monteverdes—will unfold before you. The show features approximately sixty dancers and musicians, and will be performed at a local club or at the Convention Center. A local Caipirinha drink will be served during the 60-minute show.

Experience
The show was a miniaturized version of a Garantido (red team) parade.  It was held indoors rather than at the area.  It was loud, colorful and animated.  It followed a pattern.  A group of dancers performed.  A large object hoisted up high was wheeled in.  In or on the object was a principal dancer.  The dancer was lowered to the ground and led the dancing to a conclusion.  Retiring from the stage, another group of dancers took their place and the cycle was repeated, each cycle a bit more elaborate than the preceding one.
Snapping a few pictures of some of the principle performers as we walked out, we boarded a tender that took us back to the ship.
The ship departed Parintins on schedule, sailing downriver as the sunset on the Amazon.
